WASHINGTON D.C., September 20th, 2013 --
The Filipino Young Professionals of DC and the The Esperanza Education Fund, Inc. gathered for a Fall Networking Happy Hour on Thursday, September 19th at the Cities Restaurant & Lounge in Washington, DC. FYP-DC has been doing its part on the charitable front, forming
partnerships and taking up causes on behalf of various nonprofit groups. It was a lively event full of discussion with participants from
business, charities, academia and government. Everyone enjoyed great
happy hour specials at Cities' beautiful outdoor patio dining. This latest campaign involved a partnership with The Esperanza Education Fund to connect people giving back to the community and teach how young professionals can be instruments for social change.
The Esperanza Education Fund, Inc. is a
community-financed college scholarship and mentorship program founded
and operated by a diverse, all-volunteer group of young professionals in
the capital region. Since their founding in early 2009, The Esperanza Education Fund has awarded
$450,000 in college scholarships to immigrant students in the District
of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Unlike most scholarships of its
kind, the Esperanza scholarship is open to all immigrant students regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status.
